We are thrilled to share that our Alfa CD solution, developed in partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), has won two HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2026.
Alfa CD was named the winner of both:
- Digital Clinical Safety Initiative of the Year – recognising contributions to clinical safety through digital transformation
- Safety Improvement Through Technology Award – recognising the use of technology to support safer and more effective healthcare processes
The awards were presented at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards ceremony at the Telford International Centre on 28 September, where we had the pleasure of celebrating the achievement alongside our colleagues and partners from UHB.
A fantastic evening for Alfa CD & UHB
It was a fantastic evening and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the collaboration, expertise and hard work that has gone into the Alfa CD project.
Winning both categories is an incredible achievement for the teams involved. The project has brought together Thula and UHB’s clinical, pharmacy and digital expertise to support a new approach to controlled drug management across the Trust.
To see that work recognised nationally in two areas of patient safety – both digital clinical safety and safety improvement through technology – made the evening particularly special.

Celebrating what we have achieved together
Being able to celebrate the awards together with our colleagues from UHB made the evening all the more meaningful. Their knowledge, commitment and close collaboration have been integral to the development and implementation of Alfa CD across the Trust.
