Inpatient Medication Management

Inpatient medication management – from prescription to bedside administration & audit

Designed for hospital wards, clinical teams and pharmacy in acute and teaching hospitals, where medication management runs across every ward, every shift.

The Challenge

Inpatient medication workflows can become fragmented when the EPR lacks a specialist clinical medication layer

In hospitals where an EPR does not include a clinical-grade medication layer, prescribing and administration are often spread across paper, generic modules, or workarounds that don’t reflect how clinical teams actually work. Clinical decision support can become easy to dismiss, patient views may not match clinical working patterns, and system downtime can leave staff without a dependable view of what medication is due.

Our SOLUTION

Therapy brings prescribing, administration & audit into one focused inpatient medication workflow

Across every ward and every shift. Built through more than 150+ person-years of development alongside clinical teams, it is a mature, specialist system built around one principle: simplicity drives safety. Interfaces surface only what staff need for the task at hand and prioritise the actions that staff may perform repeatedly throughout each shift, saving critical time for patient care.

Therapy fits alongside the existing EPR, so organisations can strengthen medicines management without a wider re-platforming decision.

Core Capabilities

Functionality that keeps medication information moving

Therapy covers the full loop from clinical prescribing decision to the recorded act of giving the medicine to the patient at the bedside.

Prescribing

Full prescription lifecycle via web and desktop clients, with dose calculations and hour-precise scheduling. Prescriptions are generic (active-ingredient based), so doctors prescribe the substance and dose, not the product. Decision support is surfaced inline before confirmation: interaction, allergy, overdose and duplicate checks.

Bedside Administration

Nurses manage all daily medication work, including what is due, what has been given, what is outstanding – all from a single, clear patient screen. Administrations are recorded against the prescribed schedule with timestamp and route. Administrations can be handed over, paused, resumed and undone, keeping the medication record accurate as shifts change.

Inpatient Pharmacy Dispensing

Multi-day dispensing preparation for inpatient wards, with ward-level stock visibility and label printing – bridging the prescription record into physical ward-level medication delivery.

Team-based Ward Structure

Patients and clinicians organised into the clinical teams that reflect how doctors and nurses actually work – not a flat patient list imposed across the whole ward. Nurses filter by team without losing full ward visibility.

Clinical Drug Database

Co-developed with hospital pharmacists and doctors – Therapy encodes interactions, default and maximum doses, administration times, permitted routes, tablet divisibility and likely products. Clinical rules use patient attributes such as weight and age to auto-suggest doses, frequencies and administration times.

Admission & Discharge

Tracks medication for inpatients, for recurring outpatient visits, and as fixed medication outside the institution. On admission, orders can be built directly from the patient’s existing medication; on discharge, external medication is updated from the inpatient record. Medication cards can be printed and every printed card reviewed.

Solution Impact

Proven through long-term use in a live hospital setting

Therapy has been used for several years at the regional hospital in Akureyri, Iceland. Their experience reflects the practical value of the system in day-to-day healthcare delivery.

Enhanced patient safety & medication control

Medication scanning at the point of care improves patient safety while enabling accurate, real-time inventory management. Clear daily overviews further reduce the risk of errors in administration.

Clinical efficiency & standardisation

Support for active ingredient prescribing, structured protocols, and complex dosing simplifies workflows and ensures more consistent, high-quality care delivery.

Operational visibility & workflow efficiency

Real-time patient lists, centralized dashboards, and personalized views give clinicians better oversight and faster access to what matters most.

For your team

Supporting different roles across your organisation

Explore how Therapy supports the teams involved in treatment delivery, coordination and healthcare technology.

Therapy has delivered measurable improvements across both patient safety and operational efficiency. The system provides us with significantly better overview, more standardized clinical processes and tools that support our staff in delivering high-quality care. Most importantly, it enables our teams to operate with greater confidence and focus on the patient.

Why Therapy

Designed for the complexity of inpatient prescribing & medication workflows

Simplicity that drives safety

Based on extensive R&D involving direct contact with clinical teams, every screen shows only what the user needs. The most frequent daily actions are the fastest, and real-time interaction, allergy and overdose checks are built into the act of prescribing – safety as a property of the workflow, not an extra step.

Generic prescribing based on unique clinical data structures

Active-ingredient prescribing simplifies the doctor’s work, makes clinical rules cleaner per drug, and produces a far clearer medication history. Behind it sits the most advanced clinical drug database in Iceland – doses, interactions, administration times, routes and divisibility encoded with practising clinicians.

Specialist depth alongside the EPR

Most customers have already chosen their EPR and will not replace it. Therapy is built for that reality – integrating with the existing patient record and adding a medication layer that generic EPR modules do not reach generic prescribing, a clinical drug database, team-based ward organisation, full admission-to-discharge medication management and a patient-centric journal across every admission.
